Destination Guide

Long regarded as the cultural and spiritual heart of Myanmar, Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar. Positioned on the banks of the mighty Ayeryarwaddy River, Mandalay lies within easy striking distance of former colonial hill stations, ancient cities and other cultural attractions. Visitors to this Golden Palace City can look forward to discovering its rich and colourful heritage in the many historical monuments.

Take in the sacred Mandalay Hill which offers a panoramic view of the city. Rising over 230 metres, the hill's slopes are blanketed by covered stairways filed with small temples at regular intervals. The 1,729-step climb up to the top promises a sight to behold. Be awed by the impressive and magnificent Mandalay Palace, a legacy of its own which you should never miss!

Visit Zegyo Market and indulge in purchases of all things local. The Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, the Kyauk-taw-gyi, the Shwe-Kyaung-aw are other inspiring sights to visit while in Mandalay.
